Paul McCartney was never more to me than "the cute one" belonging to the quartet known as The Beatles. There is not one person on this planet that has never heard a Beatles or McCartney/Wings tune. Myself included.I was fortunate enough to have a mother born one day after McCartney and one who made it known year after year. We had 2 Beatles and 1 PM LP around the house so I had a fairly decent knowlege of the music. However of the Brits, my personal favorite were: The Stones and DC5 (Dave Cark 5). Over the years I got the "beat down" for not recognizing The Beatles or PM's contribution to music. To me they were just another British band that got lucky and PM was just another oldie star that didn't know when to quit.Long story short, I ordered this particular item out of renewed interest in Paul. Have never been a real fan of LIVE concerts. The last one seen having been The Concert for New York City. This one I thought would just be a few old songs from his Beatle era and from his solo career and that would be it.This concert really opened my mind: It brought out things musically in my mind that I didn't know were there. If you are a fan you know the music but there is so much more than just the songs.I learned that PM is a true entertainer. Not just a studio musician. He performed more than 30 songs without an intermission and all of them were top notch! Just like the originals. Voice still in shape.PM's influence by the Beach Boys and specifically Brian Wilson and his "melodic bass lines". It got me to thinking about each song performed. They became more than just oldies. It was an education process that I went through listening to Paul and each song and things that he did. However minor. Like "Something": A sweet song to me; but too slow for my taste. He took that song and played the intro on Ukulele speeding it up by playing within the melody. Something that Parker did many decades before he was born. I heard this with my musical ear and it truly intrigued me!!!! Then the rest of the orchestra came in and played it as it was originally. You have to have some musical training to understand what I am trying to say (pouring a quart into a pint). My favorites: I'm Down, Long and Winding Road, My Love and Get Back. Hoped to hear: She's a Woman or Long Tall Sally.I could go on and on but I just thought i'd check in and say how much I enjoyed this concert. I played it on my computer and it was just like being there! Packaging was great: 3 disks. The first two were the audio cd's and the third the dvd. I thought the dvd better. Once you view it the dvd's the cd's were just music from the concert.Paul really taught me that he and his fellow Beatles are everything and more. I have a "renewed" interest in them and have ordered the Apple box set and will review that in the future! I HIGHLY recommend!!!Thank you for reading!I have had the extreme pleasure of seeing Paul McCartney live in concert a couple of times, once in Madison Square Garden and also in Philadelphia during the same tour in 1990. It was incredible seeing this living legend make the place go wild. I own every DVD concert he has put out since then and though I love them all.....none of them really help you relive the experience of being there LIVE. The problem was always the same: too much fluff in between the songs, too much "production". Clips of Paul walking around dressing rooms, talking to other celebrities, showing him traveling, etc etc. The first couple of times it wasn't so bad and it was even kind of cool having all of those extras. But after 3-4 Live DVD's exactly like that, I thought to myself "Damn Paul...just give us a straight forward, start to finish concert!" Well folks...that is EXACTLY what McCartney has just given us with this new DVD concert and it is without a doubt his best one to date.I got it in the mail yesterday, and I popped it into the player planning on only checking out the first couple of songs. Well I could not turn it off and I sat there and watched the entire amazing performance. The sound quality (5.1 DTS surround with my Bose surround sound) and the 1080P HD video quality were incredible. Paul's AWESOME band was great as always, but most of all, Paul McCartney himself. This guy just continues to blow me away! The man is 67 years old, yet watching this concert...you simply can't believe that. He still sings GREAT at this age and he can still rock! He is in excellent physical shape and he was moving around that stage with the energy of a 30 year old. Still incredible on the bass guitar, piano, electric and acoustic guitars...Paul does not disappoint. The light show is also incredible as always. I didn't even mind the the clips of the audience from the handheld cameras given to them for the show. Those interspersed clips didn't distract because, again, this was a complete show from start to finish without all of the production fluff I mentioned earlier. You felt like they just started filming from the beginning and kept the cameras rolling on the same exact concert (even if they did edit in parts from one of the other three nights). Everyone onstage must have worn the same exact clothing because you never noticed any obvious editing. Anyway...just buy it! I'm telling you, you will be glad you did! Best concert DVD McCartney has ever done. 67 years old??? Unbelievable. OUTSTANDING concert, Paul! The DVD is OK, the below 3 star rating is for the CDs, missing a lot of the atmosphere and live atmosphere on the DVD.I buy these years a lot of live recordings or acoustic projects with the old dinosaurs of rock. Because the modern recording techniques together with artist knowing how to perform and handle instruments and audience, can give you a feeling of being again young and alive, and sometimes even like actually being present at the concert, if played on a high end HiFi.This recording has a beautiful setlist, and because of this, and thinking the 1976 "Wings over America", would now be outperformed by live evolution, I bought this record and some more of PMCs live recordings. But here is a flat not 3D sound, and no longer versions, no extraordinary solos, no good contact or dialougue with audience, I actually sometimes prefer the studio versions, as this recording seems to be like a rapid live version of the original recordings, with nearly no creative updates, or uptempo or downtempo longer or shorter versions with unexpected solos and fine audience contact. I actually prefer the sound and the performance of studio versions and the 1976 Wings over America. Disappointed, as most bands in this class these years deliver very very fine live and acoustic takes. This recording is a bit better than the older Tripping the Live Fantastic, so I give 3 stars, not a best in class live take.My ardent following of McCartney waned many years ago as he didn't seem to be trying so hard anymore - but why should he after such a fantastic career. But in this case the song list and price persuaded me to part with my money, and I'm very glad I did. The wondrous thing to me is that his voice is still so much intact that at times it is almost indistinguishable from the original recordings of decades ago. Coupled with his high energy and the obvious enjoyment with which everyone plays this is a fantastic live set. It made me feel very warm to hear this guy sing from his amazing catalogue and doing it justice. No coasting here from a real great. If you have any reservations about purchasing, then set them aside.I think this is McCartneys best live recording that I have heard or own, its better than Back In The World or Wings Over America in my view. Its a 2cd plus 1dvd set. A Day In The Life/Give Peace A Chance on cd2 is brilliant. Great sound throughout and his voice is good. Its also got many songs I love on it.This a replacement for one that got damaged. Would I recommend this dvd/cd-absolutely. Good quality and 'Beatles/McCartney' at their best. The DVD is also top-notchAbsolutely brilliant value for money is this 2 CD + 1 DVD of Paul McCartney's Inaugral Citi Field Stadium show in New York City in 2008.Paul's set is a good mix of Beatles, Wings and solo numbers and over two discs and with his excellent band gave a quality performance. The Concert DVD is just a visual representation of the CD's and is an excellent bonus. At such a low, affordable price don't think twice about the purchase, you won't regret it, I Promise.
