Although little known today, Mignon Eberhart was a prolific and popular mystery writer for much of the 20th century. Cypert (English, Nebraska Wesleyan U.) draws on Eberhart's personal papers, correspondence, interviews and the autobiographies of her friends and associates to trace her life, career and relationships. Using Eberhart's novels and correspondence, he provides insights into the social mores of her day, particularly those about women's friendships and closeted homosexuality. My great aunt was Faith Baldwin, my mother (who is still alive) says she never heard her aunt ever mention the name Mignon Eberhart. Is this author desperate for readers or something? How libelous is this saying she was “in the closet.” Absolutely ridiculous!
