WowUsually I'm pretty skeptical of these remixes and remasters... This one I was particularly skeptical of just because the original version was just bad and not recorded well. History has shown that the band ended up self producing their debut after spending the advance on drugs but I won't give away Dave's autobiography... I was pleasantly surprised to hear a rather drastic difference in the mix. Certain parts that sounded muffled or muddy before are up front and sit quite well with the rest of the soundscape. The leads jump out but aren't as overwhelming as before and again sit really well in the mix. I even pulled up the original 1985 version and the last remastered version and this is a completely different beast and definitely a proper release of this... Dare I even say the definitive version? (I really didn't wanna say "the final kill" and be cheesy). Seriously though I think even the hardcore Megadeth purists are gonna be pleased with this and the uninitiated who make this purchase are gonna hear the Megadeth we all know and love the way it should it. As usual I'm not gonna do a song by song review because others do that so much better... I will say the title track is in my top 3 fav Megadave treasures so definitely blast that one. The extras are really cool for some rare live versions in the album sequence even if they vary as far as year of recording and like the last version you get the three Last Rites demos. Probably the highlight of the extras is These Boots with rerecorded vocals of the original lyrics and it's downtuned to accommodate Dave's vocals... Still a legal hassle apparently to get the original cover but this will do... for now. One of Megadeths best musically and in intensity finally redone properly. *****This was always a great album, but there was definitely a benefit gained by remixing it. I think that the album definitely sounds better than the original. It's too bad about the original author of 'These Boots' wouldn't let Dave Mustaine use the song as it was originally recorded in 1985. I understand that the 2002 remaster features the song with lots of beeps that censor all of the words that were changed. On this go around, the vocals were re-recorded with the original lyrics being performed (without Dave's lyrical changes). I think the vocal performance is pretty good all these years later, but it seems to sit a bit too low in the mix (very subjective I realize). The live tracks and demos added as bonus tracks to this release are very interesting and capture a band that was certainly hungry and full of energy, but the recordings themselves are of a very low quality. I am glad they are there though. I listened to the album immediately upon receiving it - I flexed the front cover panel a little to get the booklet back in there and the front cover suddenly ripped about 3/4" diagonally up from the bottom left corner. That sucks because the cover and artwork are done pretty well, at least aesthetically. I really hate these 'digipak cases' so much! I really miss the plastic jewel cases. If a case gets scratched up or cracks, it's easy to replace. I get the whole environment thing, but can't we get jewel cases made of a recyclable plastic? If you are like me, you bought this album back in the day to plug into your kenwood car stereo on cassette. Cranking it as you peeled out of the high school parking lot tee tops off and windows down. I was sadly disappointed when I realized that my bootleg cassette didn't sound any worse than a clean copy on cd or cassette. When I saw that they were remastering it, I was skeptical and also pensive. Just maybe there was enough clean tape for them to do it justice. My UPS person dropped it off today. It took some liquid lubrication for me to open it up (beer). I was afraid it would be another let down. A lot of my heroes have had albums released as money grabs. This is not one of them... I am ecstatic. I knew Dave wouldn't let me down. I plugged the CD into my old carousel, ran it through the spdif out and. Wow it is so much better than i expected. clarity and separation of instruments. clear vocals. I don't think they over dubbed. I think some major engineering was involved. Buy it on CD. screw streaming. no need for vinyl. get the CD and convert it to flac yourself if need be. It is worth it. Thanks Dave and company. So after listening a few times I gotta say I like this album more now than I did when I was a teenager. The production is awesome! I see there are some gripes about the lyric changes and vocal overdubs on These Boots from other reviewers but...honestly I prefer this to the previous remaster where the swear words were bleeped out. That was frickin lame! Dave does sound older (because he is!) on his re-recorded vocals and it a noticeable change in tone from the rest of the album. I can forgive it though because the superior production quality on the instruments totally makes up for it to me. Plus it’s a cover song so I don’t care about the lyrics and any lack of “young Mustaine angst” or whatever. Doesn’t bother me. Overall this final remaster of Killing is my Business...And Business is Good is one I’m glad I bought and I’m happy with it. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because all the bonus songs are pretty much garbage quality. I’ve never understood why anyone would care about poor quality demos and live tracks anyway ?‍♂️ Also I am reviewing the vinyl version of this album and it’s flawless quality ??The debut album by Megadeth is in my opinion, the worst album the band have released. The songs themselves are enjoyable and ironically, Mechanix is one of my favourites from the band. But the original production and engineering were absolutely awful, especially after all this time. Thankfully, Dave Mustaine took the album back to the soundboard and gave it a well deserved remix.Killing Is My Business and Business Is Good - The Final Kill, is exactly what I just said it is. It's a remix of the original track list, including These Boots. This track I believe was censored on previous releases due to legal reasons. The vocals have been re-recorded with the original Lee Hazlewood lyrics, I assume due to these legal reasons. With it is a selection of rough demo's and a good half hours worth of a live material, recorded throughout the world between 1986 and 1990.The remix on Killing Is My Business and Business Is Good - The Final Kill is quite faithful to the original release. However, the bass and drums have been given a good kick up the bottom, with bass frequencies being given a nice tweak. The guitars sound a little more separated and have a little reverb added to them. The new tone of the album still has that classic '80s thrash metal sound, the kind you'll find with early Metallica, Exodus, Slayer etc. However, it no longer gives the impression of pots and pans in a shed with the guitars sounding like an old rusted electric turkey knife. Instead, it sounds like a proper well recorded heavy metal release. The attitude and ferocity is very much intact. The new added clarity really shows how ahead the band were in terms of style. Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson have a nice jazz quality to their playing. It really separates this album from later Megadeth releases, which is a makes it interesting. It would have been incredible to hear what this lineup could have done had they stayed together. For example, the drums and overall rhythm on the opening track Last Rites/Loved To Death is just so unusual for a band of their time. They were great additions to the group and it's honestly a shame it ended the way it did.Like all of the Megadeth remasters/remixes, this one is a little loud. It's a huge jump in volume from the original CD but doesn't sound too different from the later censored version. I have grown particularly fed up of having metal CDs cranked up so high. On this occasion, I will let it slip. Why? Because the improvements of the remix is makes this album absolutely worth having. To be fair, it isn't Death Magnetic loud. In fact, it sounds pretty good. But the music itself has been given such a great makeover that I just can't complain.Casual fans of Megadeth might not like this album. It's a little more adventurous than the more popular releases. But as someone who loves Youthanasia and Risk simply because it's different, I really enjoy this record as it is you find it here. This is definitely down to the new remix as the songs were unlistenable on the original release. Die hard fans should have this in their collection. It's the must have version of the album, in my opinion and I couldn't recommend it more.Updated cover and remastered throughout - on its own this would be great for any real Megadeth fan but the extra disk containing live versions of all the songs on the original album AND previously unreleased demos make this an essential album at a very good price. Rattle that God damn head!Cant compare this new version with the original but will say this new version sounds surprisingly good. The songs are uniformly great with great guitars and drums. If you like Megadeth and don't have this CD then pick it up as there is no way you wont love it.The album has been revitalised by the new mix but the extras (live tracks and demo tracks) are both lazily thrown together and very poor quality audio.Arrived in very good condition.
