Packaging was great and was protected from getting any damage. Once unpacked seeing the quality of the product was impressive. I am very happy with this purchase.I ordered the 18 cupola based on the pictures and descriptions listed here on Amazon and I have to say that when it arrived I was a bit disappointed as to the actual design compared to what was pictured. I do consider it "okay" - which is why I chose three stars, but for the price I feel it was a disappointment considering the advertised pictures. On the plus side it was packaged well and arrived on the date as promised, which was really nice as delivery timing was important to me.When I unpacked it I found that all three sections were either partially plywood or completely made out of plywood. The base is 100% plywood. The center portion has some plywood (which is good for reinforcement) but is not as near as nice looking as what is pictured. The vent slats are just 1x2" boards stapled in place. There's no routing or design cuts on the corners of the cupola as pictured. The top cap is also plywood, though this is typical of a house’s construction but it means this copula cap cannot be just painted and installed, it would have to have either shingle or metal covering over the top roof area. There were some gaps present as seen in the pictures. It does not come with any screening installed on the vent portion, which I expected since they don’t advertise that it does, so this should be added to keep the wasps out. The weathervane hole at the peak has a bracket to hold a weathervane in place though it only has two little woodscrews holding it in place so I'll be adding some strength to this to support a working weathervane. If you don't plan on having one on your cupola they included a brass plug, though it will not cover the plywood portion of the roof area so you are going to need some caulking to make it so it won't leak. My roof pitch is just 25 degrees which is between a 5/12 and a 6/12 roof. If your roof pitch is greater than 8/12 you most likely would need a different base, at least on this size cupola. The 18” size is a very good match for a 12’ wide shed.I do a lot of woodworking and the only reason I didn't just build one myself was because I'm busy building a 12x9 garden shed with stained glass windows and, after seeing the pictures on Amazon I thought it was worth the $200ish pricetag since it would save me some time labor-wise. Had I known what it actually was I probably would have simply just built one myself.Perhaps they make the larger ones with more detail and route a design the corners, but on the 18" one they did not.UPDATE 08/08/2018This past weekend I installed the cupola on the shed roof as I was able to install the shingles. The cupola was installed with flashing and I even sealed around the base with silicone. Today was our first rain and there was a puddle about 16-18" wide in the middle of the shed. The design flaw is on the lowest vent section. The base is not angled so if it rains it will just leak in. Tomorrow I'll go ahead and silicone shut the entire lowest slat bottom to try and resolve this latest issue. What really needs to be done is the whole thing disassembled and the bottom lip (above the base) cut down with at least a 10 degree angle so it angles away from leaking indoors. There was no wind, but we did get about an inch of rain and all four corners (where the small blocks are just below the slats) were dripping.I had this rated as two stars but, I'm sorry - getting something that leaks because of design problems and seeing plywood and being not as pictured caused me to do have to drop it to the dreaded one star. This is a real disappointment. There is no way this thing cannot leak if installed outdoors - not with the smaller size anyway. This is totally unacceptable. I may end up having to make my own after all because I don't want to have to deal with design flaw leaks. The product is fantastic! Amazon failed. Had to order twice, due to Amazon. They don't show me which order this is. First order showed in stock, but after ordering, they said not available. Reordered different size they showed in stock. Amazon lied. I called the factory, who are very customer friendly. They build custom for every order. Took 6 weeks for factory to build. Amazon kept lying, saying it was shipped. The product and manufacturer are fantastic.Easier to buy than to make. Couple items to be aware- 14 x 18 is actually quite small. This worked ok for a 12'x12' gazebo. I would not use it on my 2 car garage. The unit comes in 3 pieces- roof, vent section, and base. The roof section is bare. You will need maybe 4-5 pieces of roof shingle if you want to cut and pasted matching roofing on the cupola. Also, there is not enough of a base for a 1:1 (45 degree) roof. I had to make a taller base to accommodate the ridge cut out. I installed a weathervane and this needed some modification. You will need to make a base for the weathervane to sit on the ridge or else the vane will spin all around and you will lose the N-S orientation. The one I made has a set screw that tightened into the weathervane rod. In order to secure the screw you will need to drill a hole in the side of the base and plug the hole with a dowel - all while you are on the roof. Lastly, I would suggest putting some screen on the inside of the vent section to keep hornets or wasps from nesting. With these mods it looks good and should keep me off the roof for some time to come. Not very sturdy or strongly made. But very pretty.Thought this was adorable on my chicken coop. Nice workmanship , arrived on time and for the $$ I thought it was decent. My chickens and I are happy❤️I had trouble determining the dimensions of the product, and based my decision to purchase upon the "builders rule of thumb" mentioned in the product description. However, when I received the product I found that the roof section is where the 22" size was based. The louver section is considerably smaller and quite a bit different than the photo. The louvers are 3/4" material and there is very little free space for air flow to occur. The section itself measures 15.5" x 15.5", and the louvered area measures only 8.75" x 9.25". The picture shows some nice detail at the vertical corners of the louvered section that did not exist on the unit I received. Also, although it did not mention it came with bug screen, it does not have any.One of the corners of the base I received had a 3/16" gap at the bottom--not a deal breaker but something that would at least need to be filled or fixed. Also, the top had damage that appeared have occurred during the manufacture. All in all I would not recommend purchasing this product, based upon my experience.I am returning the unit I received and would be hard-pressed to look at this retailer again. Its better and better built than I thought it would be. Well packed, arrived unscathed. the only complaint I have is minor. The slate are a little rough on the end cuts. I cleaned them up with a chisel prior to painting. They aren't horrible, but it looks like they cut them with a rip blade.Painted it and put copper roof and weather vane
