I only have this for a couple of weeks but it seems to be pretty tough and durable. It dries quickly after rains. I like the lack of a rubber backing because those get slimy if you don't constantly turn them over to dry.I was looking for an attractive, different way to enter my home. These mats fit the ticket! So far very durable.We were the show Maine Cabin Masters on Discovery and they usually put something crafty in each of their rebuilds. Apparently these rugs are made from lobster pot rope that has been outlawed by the EPA. So these people reuse the rope that can no longer go into the ocean. The reason it can't is because it does not disintegrate and any lobsters in lost pots will drown as they cannot get out of the pot. So use rope that does disintegrate and they can get out if the pot is lost. The rope does not breakdown because of walking on it. Dirt gets into it, but it should be easy to hang on a fence and hose off. However, the rope is not soft and hurts your bare feet if you step on it. Easy solution, wear shoes, silly. I bought two rugs, one for the front door, one for the back. They were spendy, but because they won't break down for years, it actually works out.We love our lobster rope door mat! The color selection is vast so something for everyone. It arrived EARLIER than estimated delivery time. We only wish it was bigger so it would fill the width of our single front door.We just got it within the past week so I can not attest as to its durability yet.We look forward to it lasting longer than the ‘painted’ mats we’ve used for years. Also, the fact that it is woven allows for dirt to fall through instead of collecting within the mat.I’ve bought 5 of these. Not to replace them but to replace other doormats at various places. Was an investment piece for me, but if I get anticipated years of wear, it will be worth it.I bought this as a Christmas gift for my sister who lives in Florida. She loved it. The other sister was not familiar with these mats so we explained how durable and easy to clean they were. Now I'll have to buy another one for her new condo too.
